From diff people I've talked to (through email) or who now live here, Europe, sadly, seems way behind Canada & the States. Just ask Dreamer about her experiences i Britain & Anna Laura about Italy. And they don't seem to be the exception but more the norm. There's a far richer customer market in North America & so more research, doctors, & hospitals here that further the field of mental health, even if it's mostly for the money.

As for comparison from one country to another, perhaps a search on Google using the words comparison, "mental health care", and "European countries", or something similar.

From reading here at babble, Britain does seem quite behind, with lots of psychiatrists and other mental health professionals trained in Freudian psychodynamic approaches, and medications generally prescribed very conservatively (like no polypharm or off-label use), and with the way medical coverage works--making it hard to have treatment beyond a couple of sessions. That is what I learned from some of the British posters here.

I don't have a sense of the European continent, tho. I have read that they have Light spas in scandinavian countries for SAD. and at times we learn about some medication in use in Europe but not approved here, etc. But other than that, I haven't heard anything.
