I stumbled into this site while searching for answers to my Effexor problems. I have never joined a discussion/support group before and I hope that this may keep me out of the councelors office for awhile. I realize that this may be unwise, but I don't feel ready to face the blood and guts of the real problem, yet.

Hi notehead! When I first read your post, I thought it said nothead (like knothead) - I thought it was a cool name.
What's nice about the site is it's not real time yet others often answer right away. You don't need to come up with an immediate answer for any one, nor do you have to even answer if you're not feeling up to it. You get time to compose words that may not come out as easily when you're talking face-to-face with someone, or words that may come out too easily & quickly, if you're like some of us. Hope you find the encouragement you're looking for.
Psycho-Babble is just about meds if you need to ask questions about Effexor, & this site is for general support.

Hi I've wanted to post but share my computer with my girlfriend so I was and am afraid she will read my more private thoughts. I didn't know you could make up another name but she still will know I visited this webpage. It's not even that I have to hide anything, but just part of my bigger problem with fear and anxiety. But it really helps to see I am not all alone with my big problems. That is such a hard thing to feel a sometimes lonely in a relationship.Take care bye,
Marc

Welcome Marc,
Can you erase your history and temporary internet files? In fact, Dr. Bob has a little option to erase your cookies, although I'm not quite sure what it does. That way no one will know you've visited this site. Although if you erase all the history, rather than just this site, and she happens to notice, she might assume you visited worse (or different I should say) places than this. :) But you might want to check out the possibilities.

I'm glad you joined us. :)
But we're no substitute for a counselor you know. (And it sounds like you do know that.)
Take care of yourself.

> DinahYes, I do know. It was really hard to admit that I had a problem at all. When my co-workers said that I "used to be" a nice guy, and my wife started asking over and over if I was alright, I finally went to the Dr. I should have skipped that step and called a councelor. Now I am still depressed and having many bad side affects to boot! I'm not sure that the PA who perscribed my last round of Effexor knew what she was doing. My wife wants me off the drug and I'm scared of the consequences.

Sounds like you need to find a qualified psychiatrist to straighten out your medications and recommend therapy if he thinks it will help.
It might take a few tries to find one that you can work with, but it's well worth the effort to find a competent specialist.
And therapy is a fine addition to meds.
Good luck and, again, welcome.
This is the end of the thread.
