If you should decide to go the artificial insemination route for your family, here's an idea for some support as a single parent: http://www.co-abode.com. It matches up single mothers with other single mothers to share in housing, childcare, psychological support, etc. I haven't read through it all but I know you have to fill out a lengthy questionnaire and then you pick who you think you would be most compatible with. It might be a realistic way for your dream of a brood to come true. Let me know what you think, 'k?

What a cool idea! Thanks for the info. I always thought something like this *should* exist.
I am so torn over the "do the kids have to have a father" thing. I think they are better off with no visible father than with an abusive or uncaring one, but of course better off yet with a stable family unit, if for no other reason than the parents have support from and for each other. Plus, I have some spiritual concerns about *intentionally* choosing single parenthood. Going to have to sort them out, though, one way or the other.
Thanks again. Will read more in-depth when my brain recovers (still feverish and functioning minimally.)
