Walmarting private practices

Posted by paxvox on March 18, 2003, at 16:20:22

Well, you guys KNOW how freaking hard it is to find a good Pdoc, especially with all the Benzo-Nazis out there right now. Anywho, seems my trusted Pdoc, who I have been seeing since 1996, is being sucked into a local hospital affilitated group practice. Just like Walmart does to the little private family store, these hospital megatheria eat up and consume the "little guy" practices. Luckily, he will STILL be practicing for a few more years, but it won't be quite the same. I have met the other two Pdocs in the practice, and have not been impressed. As a matter of fact, one of them is my wife's Pdoc, so now if my doc is not around, I'm limited to the third partner, who thinks benzos are as antiquated as wind up clocks, and by God, we can't have people actually going around addicted to those nasty things! They might actually be able to sleep four hours! Anyway, wah wah, I know what you think. Just had to whine a bit.

UGH, I'm sorry to hear that. I know--the wallmarting of healthcare stinks!!

I left my previous primary care physician because she got wallmarted and over time, the whole experience of consulting her got shorter and more frustrating. Now I see a Mom and Pop doctor couple, solo practice (duo really), small office, very personal service, not much waiting in line, or anything. I hope they can keep their practice going this way for a long time.

At local WalMart daughter spotted an end of "udder cream." We had to read the fine print to see if it really was what it appeared to be. Yep, it was. Soon our Co-ops will be out of business. Do you have co-ops in the states?

Mine (docs) keep giving me benzos. My disability was aproved, they said I was more than substantially disabled. I'm starting to wonder if I'm nuttier than I realize?

Can you stick with present doc for the couple years and pray the financial enviornment changes in the meanwhile?

I had no idea that benzos were frowned upon until I saw how many people here have a hard time getting them.

My mom-in-law was immediately given Ativan and Valium after her husband died, and she has unlimited refills. I was immediately given Xanax by my OB and then by two Pdocs. I'd NEVER asked for any--didn't even know what they were. And last time I had a bad bout, my Pdoc gave me Ativan--2 mg.! (The pharmacist did a double-take while filling it. I asked if that was a high dose, and he said it was!)

It's weird to hear these anti-benzo stories.

Yes, he claims he will be staying there for a few years. However, as he is in his late 50's, and likes to write novels and photograph tropical settings, I suspect this is just the beginning of his swan song.

Weird. Well, it's insanity (no pun intended) to deny medication that HELPS people just because SOME people abuse it. It's called "shotgun management" which we use a lot in the Postal Service. Punish all the Postmasters because a few are screwing up. It's more anticeptic that way, don't you know. After all, "we are treating everyone the same way". Bull hockey!

Our governor wants to allow gambling at Maryland racetracks. The best reason opponents can come up with to vote against it is that people are addicted to gambling, and this will give them one more avenue to feed their disease.

Let's close all the liquor stores! And shut down the lottery! And lock up the chocolate!

>Bull hockey!

My dad always said this when I was growing up. How can a bull play hockey?

Well, bulls CAN play hockey. No, it's true! Trouble is, they have a dreadful fear of ice, so it's difficult to sustain much of a contest w/o some skittish behavior. You know, bull in a china shop sort of stuff (like when's the last time ANYONE ever saw that?). Hypothetical ideation. Yeh, that's the ticket! Hmmmmm. I think I might be on to something here. I'll need to contact the rest of my personalities to see if we have a concurrence.
