To all the Moms out there,
I hope you all have a great Mother's day! May you get breakfast in bed (or taken out to breakfast), get a nice present from your kids, get waited on hand and foot all day, get taken out for a nice dinner, and are treated like royalty from sunup to sundown! I'm sure you all deserve it. I know the Mom in my house does.
Love to all,
Greg

I'm sorry, JYL.
I have mixed feelings about mother's day. On the one hand, I do genuinely want to thank my mother, and all the other mothers who do their best and succeed reasonably well.
On the other hand, I think it pours all mothers, and all women, into the same mold. Mothers are warm and caring and loving. They sacrifice for their children. Women are soft and nurturing. Some are, but some aren't. It's like we set aside a day for national self delusion.
The sermon at church today was like that, and I wanted to stand and extend my heart to those who didn't have mothers like that, and were probably made to feel pretty bad by the effusions from the pulpit.

Thanks Greg. :) You've got a lucky Mom in your house.
You know what I'd really love for mother's day? I'd like to be able to see myself through my son's eyes, and get a glimpse of how I'm doing. I worry sometimes.

Well you can say one thing safely.. all those mothers gave birth to us. Imagine that-- we lived inside their bodies.. we travelled down their birth canal. We had to be cut apart from them with scissors. That's awesome.

Dinah, at least nowadays they make more options for Mothers Day cards, so you don't have to send one that you don't mean. I used to agonize, searching for the "right" card. I often ended up with a funny one--you know, the kind that makes fun of the offspring and jokes at the mom's deserved day off, etc. I actually found several to choose from this year. Just simple sweet messages, but ones that don't profess the belief that my mother is the best mother in the world, all caring and warm and cuddly, and with whom I can talk about anything!
I love watching people choose Mothers Day cards. It used to be agony, now it is kind of interesting.
