OK, I was starting to fall asleep with meds sedation, so I was going to log off but then I saw your little quiz and had to answer before going to bed.

Well, it is the best love I can find for now, but believe me, when some new innovation comes along, I'm hoping it is a good one for me.
>
> 5. What fictional character would you like to have as therapist/counselor ?

Sometimes, I wish I had Sherlock Holmes (Dinah will be able to relate to this one!), who can solve all the riddles and bring all the loose ends together in a succinct solution. But it wouldn't be much fun rambling on with the esteemed Holmes--and his rather quirky social skills would be offputting at times.

No, I'd have to say I'd prefer Atticus Finch.

Baked potato.

> Hah! For $100 I bought an old subaru two door that felt like you were actually sitting on the pavement as you drove. It was a real clunker but it was wheels! And I wasn't that young--I only got my first car at 26 years old. Of course, I lived in a big city with good transit, so it was ok, and I used to walk a lot, which was a whole lot better for me. A couple of years later, when I replaced it with an old Honda--which I loved--I couldn't PAY anyone to take the Subaru off my hands. After that I drove another old Honda until it died, and only got my first real new car a couple of years ago.

Yeah, I'm guessing he wouldn't get far on this board (too many PBC's by far) but the book always makes me laugh. I found the reference you mentioned:

"Mr. I Abelman, Mongoloid, Esq."

Well, he said 'Esquire', at least?

Scout's father in "To Kill a Mockingbird"-- a great book and a great movie, and Gregory Peck just died last week, sigh.

Atticus Finch was a good answer, but upon some reflection I'd take a different fictional character. Wally Lamb's second novel whose name escapes me (something like "These things are true" maybe) introduces a therapist who is a woman from India. I thought she seemed really wonderful.

You wrote:

I was around then and may have been one to suggest this book. But I found I just couldn't read it again and it seemed that others didn't respond to it quite the way I had. In spite of the length of time which has transpired since I did read it (25 +/- years), I remember Ignatius' business letter writing vividly, and in fact think of it almost every time I have to write a letter to someone I dislike - the notion of using the words you'd LIKE to use and not the ones you SHOULD use is very alluring.

Well, compared to Ignatius, I suspect Boo would be a better listener. He might not understand much of the language, but would probably tune into the voice cues. Ignatius O'Reilly, on the other hand, would probably have full control of the semantics, but totally miss the non-verbal cues.
