It is said that the porcupine is never safer than when its quills are fully extended. However it is unable to feed itself in this position, and will ultimately starve to death in its safety.
Perhaps the zoologists would label the literal interpretation of this as an urban myth. I do not know.Michael

Have you read "Schopenhauer's Porcupines: Intimacy and Its Dilemmas" by Deborah Anna Luepnitz? I think I remember I enjoyed it. :-) The theme was the universal struggle between the desire for intimacy and the resistance towards intimacy.
If I'm remembering correctly. I blame the psych meds. :D
