I don't know what's wrong, but I know that hair follicles can go into rest phase from stressful events. When this happens you lose a lot of hair about 3 months later as the follicles start making new hair and the old hairs get pushed out. It's alarming if you have long hair but it will stop eventually and you won't end up bald. Do you see any tiny short hairs growing in where you've lost hair? If so then you are growing new hair already.
Could it also be medication related? Some meds are notorious for hair loss, and some list it as a rare side effect. You might need to have your doctor switch your meds if it keeps happening.

Any medication changes? I thought I'd go bald from stopping Effexor. And now that I've upped my Depakote from 125 to 250 mg, I keep finding hair in all my food. :( And yes, stress as well.
The most encouraging thing I can say is that it'll grow back.

Hi,
Stress can cause hair loss, so can a low body mass index (BMI). Your recent weight loss may have caused your BMI to be low: 21 or under. There are body mass index tests online, you might want to check yours out.
