Hi all.
Just wanted to say that I'm new here, and this seems to be as good a place as any to announce that. I have just started being treated for major depression (375mg effexor, pdoc). Just to paint a bit of a picture, i'm 29yo guy from australia.
Started to really slide into deep depression over the last 6 months and it crept up on me.Hope to be posting again soon.
take care.

Australia huh, lucky you. I saw on the news that Sydney is having record high temps this week.
Depression has a way of creeping up on a person doesn't it. How do you like the Effexor?

Re: Effexor - I think it's only just starting to have some effect. It looks like treatment for depression (and all mental illness) requires a lot of patience...take it easy.

WOW ! Your pdoc started you on 375mg ?!?! Thats pretty high to start with. But if you're handling it well then good for you (or good on ya as you say over there ;)
I'm on 37.5 mg (a measly tenth of yours!) and thats as high as I could go...When I tried going to 75 ...I turned into a zombied vegetable casserole. Couldnt move, think, act or feel. So had to stay on it.
Well, you must be a pretty big guy to be able to handle such a high dose of that stuff. Me...I'm a very small petite person. I think weight/size probably has something to do with effective dosage.
You're absolutely right about the patience bit....thats the only thing we can do....wait and hope patiently.Take Care and send us some warmth (its -25 celsius over where I am -- eastern canada !!)

Hi Psychopoppy,
Enjoyed reading your "WOW!" response. When I wrote "just started treatment" I should have said I've been on effexor for probably close to 2 months, so it has been a gradual build up. Have just started visiting the pdoc, which has so far been an interesting experience...
Anyway...
I went on a holiday to western canada in May (loved BC and the rockies and Canadians), and in Calgary it was still very cold and snowing(but only -5 or so!!) Can't imagine -25!!!
Keep warm!
This is the end of the thread.
