giving my vacuum cleaner a haircut

Posted by octopusprime on March 14, 2004, at 16:50:47

(oh the joys of overposting)

so i finally got around to doing some housework today. i only do this when i'm expecting guests or the rodents are threatening to eat all my food or both.

the horror!

so i turn on my vacuum to no effect. i turn it over to see what the problem is. the roller has grown a full head of hair! i never realized how much i liked my hair colour until i saw my vacuum with it. so i got out my screwdriver (which i had just put AWAY, thank you very much) and reverse engineered my vacuum. it's very tricky to give your vacuum a haircut. must not cut all the bristles on the roller. so now the hair is gone and i can vacuum. but now i don't wanna!

geez who knew housework was so unpleasant. i guess that's why i never do it!

I hear you. Extracting the hair from the vacuum roller is my 2nd least favorite cleaning task. Put it off too long and the roller sticks, then the belt melts and/or the engine burns out. The worst task is extracting the hair from the shower drain. Yech! I have shoulder length hair, and due to the meds it seems to fall out constantly.

Somebody really ought to invent a vacuum for long-haired households. That roller brush is bad news.

justyourlaugh -

does fishing line help you hang up things like fluorescent lights?

i was just attacked by my new light bulb. no, it wasn't good enough to go to the store and buy it. then i had to put it up.

put two new bulbs in. none worked. then i fiddled with one, and got that one to work. then the other one jumped out of the ceiling and whacked me on the head, and i nearly fell of my chair.

is this how octopusprime meets her untimely end, attacked by hairy vacuums and killer light bulbs?

i'm drinking my reward beer. stay tuned for the next chapter ...

I have a similar problem with my clothes dryer. There is some screw inside by the door which collects hairs. By the time a large load is done, it has collected a pony tail. Once I empty the load of clothes into the laundry basket and slam the dryer door shut, the statically charged pony tail hangs outside the door. It's truly an odd sight. When I walk by, it sorta lifts up and trys to git me.

i onced tried to hang a windchime with a metal hook end,as a stood on the kitchen table,, through a fluorescent light box and got a nasty shock!
also as a child i remember bringing up my laundry pile from the basement,,,at the top of the stairs i went to "flick"the light switch off,,,hands were full,,with my tounge..no plate on the switch...i was froozen there as the current ran through my body...
i suggest hanging items with only "dry" areas of the body with no metal involved...
how about hanging carrot muffins around the toilette?

I have long hair, my daughter has long hair, one of my dogs has very long hair, and the other has just regular long hair. The very long haired dog is shedding.

My solution to the "hair in the vacuum" problem is that I have mostly hardwood floors, so I just wait until the dog hair has collected in bunches on the sides of the room, and then I can pick it up. This also uses less electricity, so there is a savings there.

When I do get hair in the vacuum with the beater bar (for my rare rug areas), I use a razor blade to cut the hair, then I don't have to worry about damaging the bristles (because I cut in between them). But please be careful if you do this!!!

For Xmas my parents gave me some money so I could have someone come and vacuum my floors, wash the kitchen floor and clean the bathrooms. I still haven't called the person. I should do that.

"For Xmas my parents gave me some money so I could have someone come and vacuum my floors, wash the kitchen floor and clean the bathrooms. I still haven't called the person. I should do that. "

Once upon a time I had a T who, whenever I would say that I should do something, he would say, "Who said you should? Who wrote that rule?" It was highly annoying, but he made his point. I really notice my own should statements now, and unfortunately for others - I notice theirs too!

So....who made the rule that you SHOULD do your own floors? Heck, take a break from the razor blade, consider it a coping mechanism, or part of your therapy,...just do it. A little luxery which someone else it paying for?? Indulge! :-)

Respectfully yours...Emmy
