i have read many postings on this board with great delight. there are so many intelligent, insightful people with depression out there who have received very little in the way of relief from doctors. i have been severely depressed for 17 years. my symptoms seem to be atypical. the worst symptoms started after having children.i could not stay awake during the day and had to have naps like babies twice a day. eight years ago, the depression was so bad that i had to have shock treatment. none of the antidepressants worked. i walked away from that certainly in better shape, but i didn't do well on the antidepressant the doctor put me on. he told me my symptoms were all in my mind. i walked out and never went back. i sought alternative doctors for several years. one was a natural hormone balancing dr. i do have thyroid problems i discovered, but the thyroid did not help the depression. anyway, am currently on provigil, wellbutrin synthroid, cytomel,(soon to run out) current doctor will not prescribe it and can't go back to other doctor who is 10 hours away. my question is, i feel like my problem really has to do with dopamine levels in the brain and wanted to try solian--is there any way to get it overseas without a prescription? also, wanted to try a comb of small doses of segiline(L-deprenyl), phenelalanine, and B6. doctor wouldn't try it. afraid of being sued i guess. no one will stick their neck out for you. anyone tried this comb? doctor wanted to try strattera for me since i have adhd, but wanted to 1st try to increas wellbutrin. i have to take low doses of meds or they make me worse. i am on 3rd day of 100 mg SR. he said it would take 4-6 weeks, but usually my body knows in a few days. i still don't know if this is going to work. definitely seem very depressed today. any imput would be gratefully received. e-beth

E-beth,
I don't know where you could get solian, and don't know much about it either. As far as the sleep irregularities go, something that helped alot of people (When I worked at a health-food store) was tryptophan. It was taken off the market for some time, but it is now available again, over the counter.
This new version usually goes under the name 5-htp. I use it when I can't get to sleep. It also has the benefit of increasing seratonin, and can help with depression in some people too.
Hope this helps,
Dee.

Please don't use this site to exchange information that could be used to import into the US medication that hasn't been approved by the FDA:

Also, I'd like follow-ups regarding medication to be redirected to the main Psycho-Babble board.
Thanks,
