Can I have a hug please???

Posted by NikkiT2 on July 29, 2004, at 6:40:03

I just need a big hug.

I've just "failed" my pap smear again. I failed it a few years ago, with "abnormal cells", and had a colpscopy, biopsy and subsequent diathermy to remove the nasties. been clear since then, buyt due to other medical issues I didn't have my smears every 6 motnhs and left it two years.

Just been called to tell me that this one has shown abnormal cells.

I know, I really do, that this isn't a big problem. We have pap smears so these things are all found nice and early on. But damn, I just need a hug right now as I'm home all alone and this isn't something I can really call hubby at work about.

They've booked me in for colposcopy and cone biopsy on 13th Aug (yup, good old Friday the 13th)..

I really really hate being a woman sometimes.

Sorry you have to go through this, Nikki. It is not fun being a girl a lot of the time, is it? Even having boobs and curves. I went through a bunch of bad smears and they (thankfully) resolved themselves eventually. I thinking of you, hon, and hoping you're not too upset.

I remember how scary it was for me, too. And all the logical statements in the world don't eliminate that fear entirely.

How much activity can you cram into the first half of August to make it go quickly and to distract yourself?

of Course! (((((Nikki))))))

I'm giving you an air hug right now.

Those things do throw you, don't they. My first one of those was roughly 26-28 years ago and it's happened a few times since. My oldest daughter has had it too. I still remember the fear I had the first couple of times, though it seems like no big deal now.

You'll get through it, I know.

Nikki,
I'm so sorry this is happening to you. I know how scared I was when it happened to me several years ago. I also went through the culposcopy (sp?) and coninization. One thought...both times I had abnormal pap smears, I also was diagnosed with a yeast infection. Having this can affect your PAP. Before you have the procedure, check to see if you have one as well. If so, it may be useful to wait, clear the infection, and have a repeat PAP. I wish I had, as it would have saved me pain and money.

Either way, please take care. It stinks, I know. We're here for you.

All the hugs in the world to you, Nikki. I'm amazed at the number of responses you've gotten from other babblers who have had bad paps and more. It's inspiring me to go in and get my overdue pap smear soon! This stuff is scary for sure, but they have good treatments, and it sounds like you're getting good care. Hang in there, and please keep us updated on how you're doing as you wait it out.

Hugs are one of my specialties. Though it is hard to hug and eat ice cream at the same time (It *can* be done...).

Hoping that the time flies past and that all is well in the end.

(If you haven't read "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (Book 5)", now might be a good time. It is very long, and compels you to keep reading, but if you read some and don't remember it it isn't the end of the world. I just finished it - one of her top two, I would say)

I had a full STD check, including yeast, at the same time as the standard pap smear, so all that is clear.

And fallsfalls - I was one of the midnight queuers when Harry Potter 5 came out!!!
currently I'm reading "Something Rotten" (might not link as its out in US in 10 days).. the author, Jasper fforde is one of my current fave authors.. the Thursday Next series (this is the 4th in that) is awesome, and tonight I went to a reading / Q&A / signing he did and it was HUGE fun!! *grins* he's a fantastic guy and really really funny!!!! I came over quite teenage girlish when I met him!

Thanks for the support everyone.. its meant alot today

Nikki, So sorry you've had this setback. I thought you might like to know that my daughter(now 37) had a cone biopsy about ten years ago and that everything has been fine since. She had annual checks for 5 years and now goes every 2/3 as normal. She has since had three children with no problems. (We are in the U.K. as I think you are.) All the very best to you and the biggest hug.

Yeah, Nikki, I forgot to mention...I have had no more abnormal PAPs since that experience I had. Here's hoping this is your last, too.

Take gentle care. I hope you do something fun this weekend.
