Have any of you actually fainted from anxiety? I did once, and my therapist is trying to convince me that this is very rare and that I must have passed out for some other reason.
I keep thinking of Tony Soprano, who seems to pass out everytime he has an anxiety attack!

No, even when my anxiety and panic were 24/7, unfortunately I was wide awake for them.

Well I have been told I have the opposite problem! I faint sometimes and have been told that it is anxiety, even though it doesn't feel psychological to me. I get this strange feeling that I have to lie down and if I don't I'll faint. I also have a bad habit of thinking that I need to sit down within a certain amount of time or else I'll faint and so I run in the general direction of something to sit on. This results in my running and collapsing within a few steps. Now I am told to crouch or sit where I am and breathe slow and put my head down for a bit. Seems to help. Maybe it's low blood pressure or something...

You might have a conditional call neurocardiogenic syncopy. Syncopy is a fancy word for fainting. It occurs when you have a temporary lowing of your blood pressure and it can be made worse by stress. Here's a link to more information.

>Vasovagal syncopy- I believe this is what my doctor believed I had when I passed out the last time. He wanted me to start increasing my salt intake, which didn't help at all. It would be interesting to have that tilt-table test.
Thanks for the link!

I know about this condition because my daughter has it. She was diagnosed with a tilt table test. In her case increasing salt really helped, but serious salt increase, not just salting food more heavily. She takes two salt tablets a day and also takes a beta blocker to keep her heart rate steady. It also helps to drink lots and lots of fluids to keep your blood volume and thereby your blood pressure up. In her case stress definately plays a role, she is alot more likely to pass out if she is under stress or anxious about something. To answer the question at the top of this thread, I don't know if stress or anxiety can cause fainting in a "normal" person (whatever that is!), but in people with certain conditions it can contribute to fainting.
