free time / alone time

Posted by PM80 on May 5, 2005, at 8:41:39

What does everyone do when they are all alone? I know some mom's would LOVE some alone time, but I've got the opposite problem. All I seem to have is alone time. What does everyone enjoy doing in their free time? How can I make my evenings and weekends feel worthwhile- like I have a life?

I'm not a mom; I just meant that i know some people would love to be able to have free time. It's a case of too much of a good thing or all things in moderation or something.

I'm one of those moms. And now that I get some free time I cherish every moment of it.

If I had more time? I would read more. I like building things and gardening. I would volunteer somewhere - probably the wildlife rehab place.

But I think for the first year I would lie on my back with Xs in my eyes like the cartoon characters.

just envisioning auntie mel on her back with x's over her eyes pretty much epitomizes a worn out mom.

hmmm...what should you do with your alone time...hmmm. What do you like to do? although i gather you've probably already used up those options and have time for more?

since you don't have kids maybe you could work part time at a neighborhood school. that is, if you like kids. I always thought that would be fun for awhile since i couldn't have children.

i spend a lot of time inventing products and testing them on ebay. Are you a creative problem solver?

if you like people and like being around them, places like airports, hospitals and hotels are huge congregating arenas...think part time jobs there just for the fun of it. Although the hospital has the whole 'lots of sick people there' thing going against it!

if you like animals you could do dog shows?

this is hard since i don't know much about you.

throw out more info on you and i'll throw some more gems (ehhhh) back atcha.

I'm not one of those neat-freaks. I only clean because I don't like living like an animal! Too dirty is gross. Messy can be okay. (clearly I'm not at all OCD :)

Well, I don't really want to get a part-time job. I don't like the actual work of most part-time jobs and HAVING to do something in my free time is different than choosing to do something. I make decent money working 40-45hrs a week so I don't really need the money. I'm an actuary still going through the exam process so I have quite a bit of studying that I do with only a few months off during the year. I currently volunteer as a girl's (9and10 yr olds) soccer coach, which is quite fun but will be over in a month.

I guess I was just wondering if anyone really finds sustained enjoyment in solitary activities. I like being creative and I am fairly athletic. What are fun, inexpensive hobbies that can let me meet people, but have an indepedent side to them? So I guess I'm asking for the world - that's all.

I have the same problem...

I think I've pinned the explanation for the problem on the fact that I was always so busy doing what I was told and caretaking that I never figured out HOW TO FIGURE OUT what I LIKE...

Still haven't figured out what I DO like hobby-wise, though...

Maybe it's just Babble?!?!? Can Babble be a hobby?!?

I'm joking around here, I know, but unfortunately I'm not much help because I don't find my alone-time to be much fun, either.
