When I had Hammie, I got him to use a plastic container filled with kitty litter as a potty. He would go pee there everytime. It made cleaning his cage a lot easier. He was a very good hamster. Hammie would wake up from sleep just to use the potty. He would head to the potty with eyes half closed. He would step into the potty, made a couple of turns and settle down and stick his bottom up and out and pee. It was cute. :-) He would then lick himself clean and head over to the water bottle for a drink before going back to bed. :-)
I hope Buttertart learns to do the same, but if he doesn't that's okay. Every hamster is different.
Buttertart is still nervous when I try to pick him up, but he hasn't shown any aggression. He's not that into treats either. Maybe he's still too nervous to eat. I tried giving him a small grape but he wouldn't eat it. Hammie used to love grapes. I gave him one of those yogurt hamster drops and after a bit of nibbling from my hand he took it up with his paws and ate a bit of it.
I will try yogurt next. Hammie used to love licking my spoon when I was done eating some yogurt. He even licked it from my finger.

Deneb don't compare pets I tried that with my Brandy and Sheba poodles and when the died got Teddy who acturally is a better dog but is still not my origninal too. Think of buttertart are being uniques. Love Phillipa

You're right Phillipa. I should think of Buttertart as being unique. I shouldn't compare him to Hammie.

I haven't been reading all the posts - so didn't know you'd named your new hamster Buttertart. That is sooo cute & a nice reminder of the great time you have in TO & what a great accomplishment it was for you to do that trip.
Good luck training Buttertart. Sounds like Hammie was a wonderful pet!
luv, Kath
