How do you get thru the tough days?

Posted by Fi on June 29, 2006, at 15:04:45

The sort where you cant just distract yourself with things. And I dont want to resort to alcohol (or similar).

Its ideas for those times when you keep looking at the clock, being disappointed every time that more time hasnt passed?

Personally, I am very lucky as I get depression, but not anxiety anymore. That used to mean 'compulsory' walks round the park as soon as I got up..

PS I know that getting out of bed is really important, for a start. The huge amount of willpower involved in that can made the day knackering from the beginning. Not letting myself back to bed when I have had to go to the bathroom is a good idea. Today it didnt work- sitting on the bed to put my socks on was just too tempting!

I think I know how you feel. In the past, the slow, depressing days really haunted me badly. And I've had a lot of them. I found out that paradixically, if I just "leave my self alone", I eventually do at least something, whereas "beating" myself up just sapped me of all energy. I also got a puppy, which as a living thing can't be ignored. Plus she's really loveable and gives me that wonderful doggy unconditional love. So, slow mornings, gradual warmups, a little work around the house, a walk in the park with the pup, and I get through my days just a little bit better.

Thank you both. Good ideas.

Ironically, its when I feel bad that I actually wash up willingly (something easy to do)!
