Value of shortage and scarcity

Posted by 64bowtie on July 9, 2006, at 1:20:29

Mankind will kill ourselves unless and until we find an eternal value other than scarcity... Mercedes are more valuable because they are scarce... Winning the Lotto has more value because its winning numbers are scarce... Real estate and location, location, location has higher worth because the locations, locations, locations are scarce (for the illiterate: more scarcerer - Stick to Golf, its a simple game and simplererer to pronounce)...

Sadly, I cogitate and struggle with this conundrum and feel like I'm pushing anchor-chain up-hill... I had a break-through when I felt society could attach value to each of the 30,000-plus days we are upright and breathing... I just can't settle on a scheme to sell it... I sense I am on to something with this "valuing life" thing... A cinical take would be that 30,000 days is tooooooooo many for us to see value in... Yuk! Kahak! (gag)! ....so let's move away from making long life less valued!!!

Acquisitiveness is rooted in the "avoidance of dissatisfaction" matrix in everyone's life... As an infant, fussing and crying brings the parent to overcome the dissatifaction reflex... Generalised into adulthood, we see aborant behaviors like robbing banks and "road rage" resulting from a deep seated need to never be "wet (diaper) or hungry"... "Some parent is missing so I have to act!" (badly)...

(As time goes by, more can be said about this perplexing topic of "avoidance of dissatisfaction" and "poor impulse management" at www.avinstitute.net...)

Please feel free to chime in....

And I got no positive reinforcement as a child, was called a brat so is that why I like the things I can't afford? Love Phillipa
