... a very scary sound when you are surrounded by trees that are 30-50 years old. You hear it and look up to see where it's coming from. And you pray that the next tree branch to come down is not about to come crashing down on your car. On your house. On you. There's not really much time to get out of the way of a really big branch.
A young woman today was not so lucky. She was killed by a falling pine tree while out walking her dog.
The ice coating everything is so beautiful. And so dangerous.

How very tragic. Her poor family.
How are you, gg? Are you keeping warm and snuggly amid all that ice and snow?

It is terrifying!! And, impossible to get around and do things :-( We have had a number of ice storms where I live, but one really major one a few years ago that affected 3 provinces. I was out walking (or trying to walk) my dog, and we just barely got past a tree that had electrical wires hanging from it and it came down and just barely missed us. All I heard was zapping and cracking. It freaked me out. Couldn't scurry home like I would have wanted, given the icey conditions, but I sure was more careful when I went out the next time.
I'm sorry to hear about the woman who got killed :-( That is very sad. I hope the weather conditions start to improve soon. We have been lucky here so far this year and have not had to contend with freezing rain and ice this winter. I hope it stays that way for the rest of the winter.

a true reminder of the cosmic scheme of things and how quickly a precious life can be snuffed out.
can't imagine stepping out to walk the dog and not returning home...how awful for her family :(
again a painful reminder of the brief nature of life and how quickly it can be snatched when least expected.

I watch the weather channel each day and am lucky I left the North. I don't think I could shovel all the snow anymore. And the ice and trees falling how awful for that poor lady and family. Love Phillipa

> How are you, gg? Are you keeping warm and snuggly amid all that ice and snow?Hi Dinah,
I'm keeping warm and snuggly for the most part. It's bitter cold in the wind, though. Shoveling was pretty cold. Invigorating for a bit, then just darned cold. And scraping my car so I could move it about six feet to the "least likely to get hit" spot in the driveway last night was "fun". As was scraping a half inch of ice off again this a.m. so I could move it in order for my husband to get his car out. Hmm, come to think of it, I suppose I should have moved it back to the "safe zone" after he left. But warm, yes. Since the dog's bronchitis is getting worse again, we're keeping the heat up a bit more. Still not to what is supposed to be human comfort level (68 degrees), but warmer than usual. (I should send you a picture of the dog's new sweater.) :D
Hope weather's treating you well. I heard yours was a bit rocky, too.

You bet. Heck, I couldn't even walk up the driveway incline without holding onto the stone wall. It got a little difficult as I got further and further up the hill, since the wall got shorter and shorter. :)

Yikes, that sounds like a bad one.

It would freak me, too. I'm glad you were able to avoid it.

I hope so too about your weather. That darned ground hog...this sure doesn't feel like an early spring.

Yep. Those reminders can be painful, though.

> can't imagine stepping out to walk the dog and not returning home...how awful for her family :(I know. And I was somewhat mistaken with my information about this. It's worse. She was only nine years old. I just checked the paper while composing this message, because I wondered what happened to the dog. I can't imagine what her loved ones are going through. What a terrible tragedy.

You're not alone in moving south to avoid winter weather. Although I suppose there can be danger in weather anywhere. Still, it's good to be warm and comfy.
