does anyone know of help???

Posted by karen_kay on November 8, 2007, at 13:14:18

for homeless?

after calling about 1.5 billion people (yeah, i've even called mister bob with no help from him), i've found little help from local resources for a friend.

she's not beaten, abused or suicidal (thank god!!!). but she is living with me and about to be one of the above (i'm just kidding!!!!).

anyone know of any nation-wide services for someone with almost no life skills (ie: no license, hardly no work history, ect)?

any help would be appreciated greatly!

frustrated with rejection and frustration (is that possible????),
kk

I'd check the local community mental health centers and look into getting her a case manager or something similar. It sounds like she needs training/help in more than one area (job skills, housing, etc) and probably theyd be the most useful. In Virginia, we have Community Services Boards... (for instance, www.valleycsb.org) and I think that type of place would be helpful. Good luck!

The unemployment office here has training as well as job listings. The Women's Shelter (or maybe its the Women's Center) helps women with job skills and stuff like that. I believe the United Way also does this sort of thing. The reason I know about these is I've looked for help for my sister in the past. I just started looking online for my state, city and/or county, and then look for charities, job related things, health, etc. Of course my sister never followed through on any of them, but maybe your friend will be better.
