Hey Sigismund

Posted by Kath on February 27, 2008, at 11:19:12

Hi Dec - It's nice seeing your name here. I'm wonder how you're doing.

What is the weather like there now? We're still in the embrace of winter. ANOTHER new snowfall last night, but at least it puts a coating of nice new clean white snow over everything. Looks nice & fresh - especially along the sides of the road, where it gets very dirty & sprayed with brown/grey/black slush & spray splashed up from the roads.

Hey Declan, you know that Geography Quiz you started? Did you ever read mine that I posted after yours? It ended with a link to a lovely photo of the place. How I long for warmth & oceans right now.

I hope you're doing well.

luv, Kath

We are having a la nina year. It is the end of the drought, pretty much, and the wettest time since the early 70s.

I'm expecting floods soon.

Having failed to find any decent photos of Autsralian floods, here is a graph of the la nina/el nino thing for you to look at...

You may find this photo on this page easier to handle. It is what I am expecting....

Isn't that a big address?
The page is interestingly blurred down the bottom.

Glad you sent the second one. I do NOT have the intellect to decipher the chart!!!! Or perhaps the patience.

Yup that's gotta be the longest address I've ever seen!!!!!!!

Mine wasn't blurred.

Oh jeez Dec - I sure hope it doesn't flood anywhere NEAR that badly. That is totally horrible.

Have you had flooding yet?

Kath

Our wet season comes in the autumn, from now on really.

Often it fails, but it feels to me that this year we will have a big one.

I remember that flood. It came on slowly because it had been wettish for ages.

It is interesting as you get older, that you remember enough to be able to perceive some of the cycles.

In an average year how long is your wet season & do you get sun; does it rain every day?

Yes, my husband & I & my friends catch ourselves saying things like "This is what winter USED to be like when I was a kid." etc.

It rains a bit here in the wet. This is a wet spot. Sometimes it can rain every day for months, though not often.

I heard last night that this was the coolest summer for 55 years.

That must have something to do with why it is so much wetter than normal.

SNOWSTORM!!! » Sigismund

I'm assuming that on the rainy days there's no sun?

I would find that SOOOOOOOO hard. This winter there's been very little sun, but at least SOME.

Right now we're in the middle of a BIG snowstorm. The snow is fine & is blowing sideways & swirling & people are walking with their heads bowed down (if they have to be out).

Cars are CRAWLING along slowly (if they have to be out.) Right now is 'coming home' time so there's lots of traffic. I had to be out in it. No accidents that I saw though.

hugs, Kath
