Looks like now even coffee isn't safe my advise would be to buy your own unless you are friends with the people who wish to buy it for you. Phillipa

thanks for your advice Phillipa, I will follow the advice going to Rome for a third time probably. It's really a horror story. It could have happened to me.

I guess it's a lesson for everyone to be really careful. Also, maybe especially when one is a tourist, to be very aware that one can be a target. I guess it's probably a good idea to be 'low-key' in how one dresses & not to appear to 'have money'.
I sorta envy that you have the opportunity to travel in Europe!! LOL But it's a kind envy in which I'm glad for you also!!! Go for it! hugs, Kath
PS - on the other hand - I do 'travel' within Ontario (Canada) each summer, so I am very fortunate in that way.
