Day Light Savings Time

Posted by Phillipa on October 26, 2008, at 0:20:15

Any one's state change the date for day light savings time to turn back the clocks. Some here in NC said they are extending it for two weeks anyone know? Used to be last Saturday of the Month of Oct which would be tonight calendar say Nov 2. Not sure if it's just this state but wish I live in Arizona, Hawaii or some other state a portion does not turn back clocks either. Thanks Phillipa

Congress passed a bill back in 2005 changing the time period by almost a month; it went into effect last year. The states can decide if they want to play or not, but they can't change the dates - they have to follow the federal law.
--------------------------
"The federal law that established "daylight time" in the United States does not require any area to observe daylight saving time. But if a state chooses to observe DST, it must follow the starting and ending dates set by the law. From 1986 to 2006 this was the first Sunday in April to the last Sunday in October, but starting in 2007, it is observed from the second Sunday in March to the first Sunday in November, adding about a month to daylight saving time. (See: New Federal Law.)"

----------------------------

I like this one - falling back - it's not so hard as when we lose an hour in the spring.

Thanks 10der as no one seemed to know. But I always thought that Arizona and Hawaii stayed light year round but it's the opposite? Well guess don't want to move there then. Thanks again love Phillipa

They don't choose to observe DST, if that's what you mean :-) So you never have to change your clocks. Just like Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands and I forget the others. If you think about their climates/number of hours of heat in a day, no reason to add any hours of sunlight, I guess.

Our DV-R unit took it upon itself to change its clock yesterday. No harm done; I would not have noticed except I had to take my son somewhere at 6:30 and he pointed to it as evidence that he had another hour.

Indiana only recently adopted daylight time and it was less about "more daylight" than businesses wanting to stay in synch with the rest of the country. It was not a popular move, and there are still skirmishes in some counties about whether to be on "Chicago time" or Eastern.
