Family ties

Posted by Cass on October 28, 2008, at 23:48:08

I'm really sad right now because I was watching a news program about a couple who have been charged with murder, and I realized that the husband in this couple is my first cousin once removed. I looked up our genealogy and confirmed it. I don't want to go into the details because you might recognize the story, and that could give away my identity, not that I'm some famous person or particularly interesting. I'm just cautious on the web. Some people feel comfortable letting people know who they are, but I don't. In any case, I found the story especially upsetting because the method with which they are accused of committing the murder is similar to the method that one of my parents used to commit a murder. I'm really blown away and sad. I don't know my cousin once removed or his wife. I've never met them, but I struggle with feeling that there is a dark blight on this family, and hearing about this makes the feeling even deeper. On the other hand, apparently, lots of people think that they are innocent, and perhaps they are! I have an appointment with my therapist tomorrow. The murder that my father committed occurred almost 20 years ago now, but it's taken almost all that time to recover from the trauma of the event, the trial and the publicity. The family had always been off-the-charts dysfunctional even before the murder, so I've spent my life recovering from that, as well. Hearing the story on the news triggered lots of issues and feelings of fear, sadness and a lot more.Has anyone else here dealt with murder in the family? I'd love to hear about how you've coped.

I haven't dealt with that, but I certainly feel for you! I can't even imagine how hard that would be to go through. Its understandable that the news you heard would upset you, that would be more than enough to upset the average person. I don't believe your family has a blight on it though, I think its just an unhappy coincidence.

I'm glad you're going to see your T tomorrow, I think that is exactly what you need right now. I hope you get to feeling better. I'm sending calming, healing vibes your way.

No haven't delt with it either. Must be horrible for you and hopefully your T will help. Don't blame you from hiding identity. Love Phillipa
