I don't know the details of all the rituals my mom goes through.
I think tradition will die with me and my sister.
She has a bunch of food on a table with alcohol and tea and incense, all facing the window. She opened the window a bit, maybe to let in the spirits of our ancestors??? I don't know.
When the incense burns all the way through, we'll eat this food. First we have to wait for the spirits to eat it....I think...
I just think it's strange. I don't believe in spirits. I'm an atheist.
I don't think my mom does either?? She still sets everything up for them though.

Oops, my mistake, my Mom is taking the food away after 10 mins. The incense hasn't burned through yet. I think it's when we visit gravesites that we have to wait for the incense. We put food out for my dead grandparents and burn fake money too.

What would you say if I said that this
>I don't believe in spirits. I'm an atheist
is from Christianity?
IMO, in Asian countries, the question of whether or not you believe does not arise.
That is a monotheistic inheritance, because monotheism demands belief, and so belief can be rejected.

Bear in mind that I made that up, or rather plagiarised it.
This is the end of the thread.
