birthdays when you're depressed

Posted by inanimate peanut on January 31, 2010, at 0:53:47

Does anyone else hate your birthday? I turned 30 today (well, yesterday now technically) and I have a very real sense of mourning and sadness about it. I feel like birthdays should be a time to look back and celebrate the past and look forward with excitement to the future. Looking back to the past just reminds me of everything that I could have been and now never can be and looking toward the future just makes me think of how I have to live the next 50 years in pain. This isn't how it's supposed to be.

Happy Birthday! Congratulations on turning 30! What a great age. I understand your depression. I have and do experience it myself with regards to aging.

Happy Birthday peanut you know your're less than half my age. If only I could go back to that age. You are so young and have so many options open to you and you will not be depressed for 50 years. Have a great day. I have one in March and that's another year gone for me. Great days ahead for you!!!!! Much love Phillipa

hope it doesn't sound insensitive to say "happy birthday!"
i am 30 too.
i think getting older can be a good thing. for me, i can learn how to deal with things a little better as time goes by, and i don't let as much bother me.
but it can always be frustrating when we are reminded of how long we have suffered.
i guess the best we can hope for is there will be things that happen to you in the next 30 years (and the next 30 after that) that you would never want to give up, just like some of the happy things that have already happened to you.
i know you are worried about your illness getting worse, but that isn't a foregone conclusion, is it? and it could get better with the proper meds.
