I'm getting a lot of help, so relieved!

Posted by Deneb on October 20, 2010, at 12:36:56

My career counselor referred me to this company that helps people get back to work after having a disability or who currently have a disability. I really feel like I am at a big disadvantage compared to other people because of my anxiety and it has definitely affected my work, even resulting in a self imposed demotion previously. They're going to help me focus on my abilities and help me with my job search.

I feel so relieved that I am getting all this help now. I finally feel like my life is moving forward.

On the downside, I took a workshop in applying for federal government jobs today and realized that I did a lot of things wrong and that it is much more labour intensive than I thought. I did not put in nearly enough work and effort into my application. There was also no way I could have in the time frame I was given. Oh well, at least now I have experience in the application process. They told us in the workshop to not count on having a government job and to mainly focus on other jobs, just because it is so darned competitive to get into the public sector. The application/interview process sounds really scary BTW, with numerous tests, interviews etc.

Just as important, Deneb, has been your willing involvement in this process. You're eager and willing to accept help in the job search process, which makes it easier for those who are helping you! It's nice to read of your progress here and off the boards too :-)

I worked with an organization that helps people with psych problems get a job. That is how I got my current job. The down side is that it took a year. Sigh. But now I am in job that I LOVE (it is in my field) and I have no stress or anxiety. It's unbelievable.

Good luck to you! Let us know if they find anything for you.
