maybe put off school for 1 year?

Posted by Christ_empowered on April 4, 2011, at 16:34:51

I'm thinking now that maybe I should put off starting school for 1 year and focus on finding and keeping a job and building a normal life. I think I've got this fear that if I don't go to school RIGHT NOW, I'll end up doing low wage work forever and I won't ever go back. But maybe my parents are right; maybe the thing to do is work on being a normal, productive citizen, and then get whatever training it is I want/need for a better job.

Thoughts?

Only you know how productive you feel. I still would opt for 1-2 classes either online or community college. Something that will transfer to whatever career you chose. Maybe a fun course? Phillipa

oh yeah, I know that fear
like you're going to be left behind, lose your chance, but truthfully a bit of time not pushing yourself is not time wasted.

I wish I had been more informed about my career choices. I was rushing to not get left behind, turns out I was just racing with myself, and I haven't ended up where I really want to be anyway. I don't think I really appreciated my vulnerabilities, really factored in how I'd manage my mental state, and it's a struggle.

If you have the benefit of some financial support from your parents then use it to the fullest.
Time spent feeling just good ole "stable" is not wasted either...it is often no small accomplishment. The daily stressors of life will likely challenge you, but if you end up just being bored than that just might be a good sign. Make taking good care of yourself a major priority...that will get you where you need/want to go.
just my 2 cents, not guaranteed accurate or helpful
take care,

slow and steady as they say :-)
