Thinking of buying a kick scooter

Posted by Deneb on March 26, 2012, at 2:59:32

I'm thinking about buying a kick scooter to scoot around on. I need to go outside, pdoc said so but I like staying in bed too much.

I thinking scooting around might be fun. It looks fun and seems less scary and more portable than a bike.

Does anyone use a kick scooter?

Any advice on which brand/model is best?

Right now I'm thinking about the GoPed Know-Ped.

The other options are the Xootr and the Kickped.

I read some reviews that said the Xootr was fast but that people often fell off it when it hit a crack on the road or something.

The GoPed seems safer in that regards but doesn't go as fast on smooth roads.

The Kickped looks really nice, but it doesn't have a front brake. I think I'd feel safer with both the front and back fender brakes.

I'm leaning towards the GoPed.

There is also the much cheaper Razor scooters. I'm wondering if they are safe though.

I think I value safety more than anything.

I'm not familiar with the other brands but I have a Razor. I bought one on an impulse after seeing a couple of kids scooting around on it on the hilly streets of San Francisco!
They were having such a ball that I had to try it myself. And it really is a lot of fun, easy to operate, and safe, too. Surprisingly, I've never fallen off of it, but I mostly ride it
around the paved park trails.

I would get the cheaper one and see if you like it before investing in a fancier model.
Have fun with it if you get one!
