Did anybody dress up? what were you? I didn't because it's my first year at a new job and i was afraid i would be embarrassed.

I didn't dress up.
I didn't get a single trick-or-treater. :-(

I did not dress up, but I did hand out candy to trick-it-treaters, and was really surprised because I enjoyed it. The coolest costume I saw was a girl in a rubik's cube costume. I think she may have made it. How cool :D

I visited a friend on Thursday afternoon and, as I walked up her street, I found that the street was like a center for trick-or-treating. Almost every house was decked out in jack-o-lanterns, skeletons, that gauzy spider web stuff, gravestones in the front yard. All the neighbors seemed to vie with one another over who could create the most ghoulish experience. It was very cool.
I live on the second floor of a condo building, so don't really get trick-or-treaters. When my daughter was young, I would dress up as a witch and take her out and try to scare the other children.
We also used to go to Salem, MA. Salem really does up Halloween. They have all these haunted houses. The Salem witch museum. It's amazing fun for kids. Boston also has this old fort on one of the Harbor Islands which is scary to walk through anytime. On Halloween they turn it into a giant haunted house.

Salem sounds so cool for Halloween, I'd love to go there someday.
And, it sounds like you had a fun Halloween in your friend's neighborhood :) I noticed a bunch of people on my street put up orange halloween lights this year. Either I didn't notice before, or this is the first year they did it. But it was fun to see people getting into the spirit. We did nothing in terms of decorations this year, but I bought a pumpkin and put it on the steps :D

Because I've always lived in multi-unit condos, I could never dress up the house. But when my daughter was young, I would have parties for her friends on Halloween and really do it up -- skeletons, ghosts, webs, scarecrows. We would turn the basement of our building into a haunted house. How much money I couldn't afford that I spent on this, I can't say. But I loved doing it.
Once, we were moving and having a yard sale to get rid of unwanted stuff. I had a giant (seven-feet tall) Frankenstein monster blow up thing that I had bought for these Halloween parties. It was the very first thing I sold at the yard sale. This little boy and his father came buy and the boy begged his father to buy it.
