How Passion can make a difference

Posted by Lamdage22 on August 17, 2015, at 13:10:56

I am completely hooked by the game of golf.

I go to the gym.

These activities really help me get my mind off of any mental problems. When i am on the Golf Course they just cease to exist.

Thats what i mean with "you need more than just meds".

So long.

Huh? who says nobody cares. I'm happy you've found something you love doing. I love swimming, walking and lifting weights. I feel sooo much better after a swim or a few good sets of squats. I enjoy talking with the trainers at the gym. Walking 3-4 miles in the city (I like city walking. I know nature walking is supposed to be better, but I love the bustle of people on the streets) makes me feel relaxed and upbeat.

Dead lifts are also great. I also learned an exercise with a trainer - stand with legs fairly wide apart. Lift a medicine ball or dumbbell from the floor and swing it between your legs then stand upright (don't lock knees). Great for lower back, glutes, thighs.

hmm i think glutes and lower back are sufficiently hit by squats and deadlifts. I like to keep my workouts simple.

I dont split, i hit it all at once.

I swim and in the water it's like my "issues" don't exist. Even walking near a body of water helps me even if it's too cold or polluted to swim in it.

Passion absolutely can make a difference.

passion makes life worth living. or makes it feel like it's worth living. or something...

i haven't felt passionately about exercise for a while. but then, i've been getting into my study a bit more, and the gym a bit less. sort of get on kicks with things...

exercise is a good one, though... I forget how much it really helps me have a baseline positive mood...

there is a really beautiful walk over here on they way to the med campus... through a park... up a significant hill, actually. a bit of a powerwalk... gets the lungs going, that's for sure. something about being outdoors, amongst the trees, too. the O2, I guess. I wish I could run... Exercise out there amongst it, properly... I wish I could take a barbell out into the field... Would need a platform...

Like Andrew Solomon said so eloquently, the opposite of depression isn't happiness, it's vitality.

Vitality...when depressed I become apathetic and unable to connect with activities. I used to swim, but now I do water aerobics after shoulder injuries. I also love fabric arts. Love is a good thing.

Glad you all have passion.

I had that too! Very limiting for awhile, but my heel mended fairly quickly... take care of it.

So what else might you do?

You're probably right. I do squats, deadlifts, the exercise I wrote about and leg presses, though not on the same day. I don't know. I like feeling like I'm working all the muscles in many different ways. I do three different back exercises, two shoulder exercises, two triceps exercises, two chest, etc, etc. It helps me feel like I'm varying things and not getting bored with my workout. I do weights twice a week and do different exercises on the two days.

Talking about exercise. My pool was closed for a week for cleaning and then I was away for a few days. But I started swimming again today and it felt great. I'm getting into a routine now of working out, swimming, walking. I also started violin lessons, which, so far, I'm finding challenging but hopeful.

I walk out my frustrations. I like to dance. And I've started doing yoga. Being near anything green, leafy, and alive makes my soul sing.

Yes varying things is good to some degree.

I vary between these two!

Training "1":

Deadlift 2 sets 8-12
LAT pulldown 2 sets 8-12
incline bench press 2 sets 8-12
cuban twist 1 set 8-12
leg press 2 sets 8-12
triceps extensions 1 set 8-12
stomach machine 2 sets 8-12
calves in leg press 2 sets 8-12

Training "2":

Squats 2 Sets 8-12
Leg biceps Machine 2 Sets 8-12
Benchpress 2 Sets 8-12
Barbell rowing 2 sets 8-12
Side lateral raise 2 sets 8-12
Trizeps extensions lying down 1 set 8-12
Stomach machine 2 sets 8-12
Calves in leg press 2 sets 8-12

All 8-12 repetitions. If i do less than two times 8 reps, i go down with weight and if i do two times 12or more i go up.
