It seems anytime I get free time anymore I end up
partying. It usually starts with drinking and elevates to coke. It doesn't help to change friends because almost everywhere I turn someone uses. NA doesn't help. They have a 10% effective rate.I understand the NIDC is in stage 3 of trials using Selegeline, A dopamine elevating drug. Has anyone had experience with Selegeline or any other dopamine elevating drugs that helped?

Thats my problem, all my friends are using, so I just have totaly cut off contact with everyone, 2 years now. That used to be my problem always going out and getting into drugs because everyone around me was using. Now my problem is, I don't have any freinds anymore, except from work. Help!

wellbutrin might be something to talk to your pdoc about. it has the ability to increase dopamine levels. also look at Provigil (modafinil)
selegiline is interestingly metabolized into methamphetamine and amphetamine (in small quantities, but that might be part of the reason it helps)

I went through a phase of partying with cocaine and the only reason I eventually stopped was I moved away from the people supplying and doing it. Can you surround yourself with different people? I realize it's fun, but it does take a physical toll on your body.

I had the same problem for a long time--except it was meth and coke. Then I started using alone. Finally I just had to cut my friends off. I started seeing a counselor and I started taking Zoloft. As of now I'm 62 days completely clean...so I guess I don't have all the answers...lol...but that may be a couple.

One of the functions of NA is to help find friends who are not using, because we always end up finding the drug addicts anyway. NA is not effective because people don't think it will work, but it requires patience, and it really does work. I started out not thinking it would help, but when I was given no other choice in rehab, I thought I'd give it a try -- and it defied my skepticism. Alternatively, try AA, more than half of the people in AA also had problems with cocaine or opiates.

nina,how'd you stop, if i may ask? na? i'm planning to quit on monday but i don't want to go to a 12-step program. been there, done that. a long time ago and for a long time. but i need some plan and i don't know what to do.

Wellbutrin has helped me ALOT in my battle against Freebase and stim. usage. I take 300mg's daily.Pamela
