Hey all,
I ordered ativan online to help with anxiety when I wasn't seeing my psychiatrist for awhile (I don't have insurance and already owe his office LOTS of money) That didn't really do the trick, I only took it occasionally bcos I've been addicted to it before when it was prescribed. So i made and appointment and started lexapro (4 weeks ago), which helps enough I take ativan only at night. I didn't even mention it to my shrink though bcos i was embarrased and thought if i ended up needing a prescription for ativan (which he'll do only sparingly) he wouldnt anymore if he knew i ordered online. i can't sleep well without it though. i still only take it three or four nights a week (if i have class the next day or something important), but the other nights i toss and turn. in fact, even with the ativan i don't sleep that great, have nightmares and wake up at 6 no matter when i went to bed, 10, 12 or 2! i don't have an appt for 4 more weeks and kinda want to call him and get something or maybe an increase in lexapro but i don't know...always tired but never sleep well...feedback?

5HTP has worked wonders for me. I was on Lorazapam for quite a while and was able to stop with the use of 5HTP. From what I have gathered, 5HTP is builds seretonin which I think somehow turns into melatonin. It has been a wonder drug for me and I am going to start taking it again as soon as this Elavil leaves my system that has completely screwed me up.

But of coarse read up and make your own decisions on the safety of 5HTP and if it sounds like the right thing for you...

I have to be really careful of 5HTP. I'm already on quite a high dose of A/D's (currently 600 mg Serzone + 20 mg Buspar / day); 5HTP can boost my serotonin levels into the "S. Syndrome" region (so I assume) where sleep becomes impossible - I get anxiety, burning skin and thrashing thoughts which are the last things to make me sleepy!
To complete the picture -- since this is P.B. Substance Use -- I've been abusing Robaxin and Carisoprodol (Soma) recently. No wonder my sleep pattern is disturbed!
I'm posting right now as I've been awake since 05:30 (PDT!) with similar symptoms. No 5HTP, but I took my AM Serzone at 5:30 in the hope of getting back to sleep, but sometimes it seems the results are the opposite of the sedative effect it usually has. BTW, my MD also cautioned against using 5HTP with high doses od Rx A/D's.
YMMV - one trial on 5HTP and (posssibly) a sleepless night is not likely to significantly harm any of us.
Care,
Tony
