My Brother stoppped drinking about 9 months ago but switched addictions too pain killers and xanax.
He has the whole elaborate thing going about his shoulder being torn up. It is true he has shoulder problems but that's his reason for the drugs.
Can I legally call a Doc and warn them that he is addicted? I'm afraid he is goign too OD.
ThanksR

how much did the Dr. prescribe him?...it is totally possibe to put a call in to his Dr. to advise him of the problem. how much is he taking and what dosage was he prescribed? is it possible that he is finding alternate means to augment his usage? dr.s and pharmacists will rarely prescribe too much. but if he is taking everything at once then where is he getting more? yes, call his Dr. but all he can do is cancel the repeats on his prescription. all the pharmacy can do is refuse to give him more...get him to see his dr. if you can...

Hi there,
He is going to several docs and getting the loratab and xanax. So he has several scrips at once.. He'll take several loratabs and then take a xanax to ease the anxiety.. he is not using them for what they were intended. he also will but them on the street.ugggg

yes, he has merely switched addictions. if you know even a few doc's names you can certainly call them. may make it harder for him but won't cure him. he has to realize that there is a problem. and, of course, there is. i don't think at that rate, OD'ing is a problem yet, but dependancy is. he may suffer withdrawls if he runs out of sources...

Calling his doctor's will probably alienate your brother from you. Doctor's seem to be pretty sharp about recognizing an addict. Sooner or later he will run out of local doctor's to fool, or the pharmacists will suspect something with multiple scripts and doctors. Even hospitals get suspicious when someone repeatedly breaks fingers or toes to get a painkiller script.
The doctor's legal obligation is to his patient, including confidentiality.
If other family members have noticed this, maybe you can try a family intervention... just like the one that might have happened with the alcohol abuse. Is he going to AA? His sponsor might be able to help. It's tough to be in the position that you are in.

I,m sorry ,Guys, but Rainee,You are probably doin your brother one of the biggest favors you,ll ever do for him!Not only might he OD,but he is only inches away from gettin busted! All states now have tracking methods to catch people who obtain multiple Rx,s for Controlled Substances.(Lortab is a C-3,Xanax a C-4).They fixed it so these folks cannot get by with this sort of thing but for juuuust a little while, then, the system will auto-flag the perso via S.S.# and gets a print-out detailing what and where they got the pills, then,BAM BAM BAM goes the front door, and lo and behold, there stands the narcs with a big,fat warrant!I sure ain,t gonna let my brother or sister go through that cause they have an addiction problem.Call the Dr. tomorrow and pleeeaaaassse, show him this POST!!!(It,s all very true and very probable,if not already in the works!)Festus
