I doubt it would be wise to stop cold turkey. It's probably best if you slowly wean off. You've been on it a long time, I would be patient and take this slow.
Why have you been on it for so long? Chronic pain?

Sounds kind of like an experience I am going through, Only I hope for you sake it's different.
It's long and complicated, so I'll abbreviate as best I can.
I have fibromyalgia (since 2000)
was finally put on pain meds late 2003
switched from norco (hydrocodone 10mg/350) 1 a day down from 2 (5 months earlier.) over to methadone to try and give more even relief.
At 15 mg a day all I could really feel was constipation (lol) so they tried me on duragesic
(I think it was 20mg)I quit the methadone cold turkey, as they didn't give me a plan to wean off, and told me I was switching. the 3rd day into the duragesic I noticed body wide burning, after switching to my second patch. the 4th and 5th day I thought I was dying(and I actually wanted to) I wen't back to the doctor , who said that either it was possibly whithdrawal, or that I couldn't tolerate the duragesic, she also stated she doubted it was whithdrawal since she had never seen it before. so she put me on 3 norco a day, and said I should immediately feel better, once I took it. I didn't, and went through about 3 weeks of the burning, nausea, chills, sweats, fever, and depression. once that passed, I noticed that my normal pain level, had doubled , or tripled,( Its kind of hard to gague since it seems to have become my new normal pain level) I am now walking slowly with a cane, and was fired from my job last week for performance, since I could no longer do the job at a satisfactory level. But the point is unless i had something else happen other than whithdrawal, and I can't get a doctor to tell me anything, or help me. It's possible, I suggest you see you doctor, and possibly let them hospitalize you if your symptoms are bad enough. I wish I had, if only to have it on record since my doctor has hung me out to dry. but I know i fel't worse than I ever have my whole life, during the initial mess, and now I don't know what I am going to do, or where I can even go for help. As every one seems to give me the run around. Just make sure you check with your doctor though, and protect yourself, get as much documentation as possible.
check with your doctor though
This is the end of the thread.
