Cocaine stroke

Posted by AMD on March 30, 2005, at 15:22:31

I read about this... and after having a small binge this weekend I'm freaked I may have had a stroke! Would I know it? Are these really that likely if one's in reasonable shape? (Well, I'm lean and my blood pressure and pulse rate are always normal/above average, but still I'm worried!)

Am I being paranoid??

What are your symptoms?
I am not familar with cocaine so I dont know if you are being paranoid, but I know stroke symptoms.

what I meant to say was what were the symptoms that you had when you thought you had it.

Er, none. I have just been wondering now ... I don't think I have any physical symptoms aside from feeling depressed, a bit wired, and anxiety ridden. I'm just reading about aneurysms and scared I may have had one ... would I know it? Or will it come on gradually?

I guess I just feel spaced and hope this will pass.

you die from them... my guess is that you don't have an anuerysm in your brain... small strokes that are indetectable in terms of symptoms are only dangerous if you accumulate many if I remember what I've read correctly...

What it sounds like you are feeling is withdrawal. Stick with it, get past it and decide not to scare yourself by using anymore.

This is the same advice I would give to my SO if he would just talk about his use and withdrawal symptoms... I try to tell him this, but he blows me off before I get halfway through my first sentence.

I'm quite self-aware I have a problem. I don't think I even had a stroke -- then again, if you don't know, how can one ever be sure?

I need to cut out the alcohol too. I was in great shape about a month ago before I started drinking again, and now I feel like I look horrible -- all from one month! That, plus cigarettes ... I'm a living, breathing self-destructive right out of M:I.

I've been out once or so a week, drinking heavily each time, for about a month. Is it possible I could have DT or another symptom from this, or does that take years to develop. Also, could these binges, even small in number, have caused cognitive damage?

Beginning today I'm back on my health kick. Moderation doesn't seem to work for me...

You do realize you can have many strokes in your brain and not know it until it's too late, right? Until they accumulate to the point where you're going, oh yeah, there's something wrong .. or maybe you never notice, maybe it's others who notice. Scary stuff. Strokes happen without cocaine too. You're just making your chances of it happening earlier that much better. :-)

I knew that's what you meant. As long as he keeps using, knowing the dangers (he can't claim ignorance, now; he almost committed murder, he was thisclose, and the white spots are indicative of what he was doing to Your Brain) ... he's choosing his habit over his life, and yours too.
