Buprenorphine for quitting Crystal Meth help?

Posted by downwardSpiraler on July 22, 2005, at 10:55:42

Does anyone know if drugs like Subutex or Suboxone, both with the main ingredient of buprenorphine hydrochloride, used in the treatment of Heroin addiction, may help someone trying to quit using Crystal Method? They really need and want to get off meth and have actually made geniune attempts to stop but nothing they have tried has worked. If anyone out there may have heard of this drug being used for this or if something else like it that may help better, please let me know. We need help ASAP.

I don't really know why it would help. Except that it might function as a general euphoriant and antidepressant, and that may be enough to help with amphetamine discontinuation.
I wonder if dugs that affect dopamine might be useful. I think deprenyl might help with the long term nothavingit syndrome.

See that was what I was thinking. I mean I know it's not exactly the same as opiates or cocaine, but they work on some of the same areas of the brain...right? So if buprenorphine works on opiates and cocaine couldn't it help with meth as well?

In Australia sometimes methadone and bupe are Rxd for cocaine users. Maybe the logic is 'give them this and see if it satisfies them'. Of course some would use both stimulants and opiates. It's said that bupe is (slightly?) antidepressant, unlike methadone.
