Weed and the Brain

Posted by Ryan2828 on August 1, 2005, at 3:49:46

I was addicted to weed on a daily basis for almost 8 years. I noticed it made me really stupid, slow, and forgetful. I mean I would lose my keys all the time, lose my car and forget etc. I would just walk around and stair at the ground I was so spaced out. MY Question: What brain chemical was effected from my daily use the most: Serotonin, Norephrine, or Dopamine Could I have ADD as a result of daily Pot use??

You're not being ignored, I haven't the faintest idea what the answer is.

Don't worry about being ignored, happens all the time etc.
The thing about weed is that the response to it is so variable that I'm not sure what generalisations can be made. I wonder if it is true that weed (THC?) mimics estrogen and therefore upsets your hormonal balance.
Weed probably affects all sorts of things, GABA among them. ADD? Some people go mad on it, so why not?
A small minority of people seem to thrive on it.
You liked it?
I don't *particularly* like it but I since I need a bit of transcendence.....

Ok thank you its just Psycho babble is getting overflooded with new users. I am just wondering how to tell if ADD medication is right for you? and there must be some medication available to treat THC users who have since stopped like me for 8 years straight.

It effects people differently, short term and long term.I know some who still smoke(25-35 years and counting)and have never had a single problem.I know there are as many theories and accounts of brain"this-and-that" or memory troubles, etc.from weed smokin, but, again one must take into account the individuality we all maintain effects us differently in many ways, both mentally and physically.I truly believe a lot of things we feel going on inside our minds can be controlled and managed by our minds.Good-Luck,Festus

What about something like aniracetam? Seems to help short term memory and doesn't feel awful if you only take a small dose. Or some of the smart drugs.

Hi this is mike. Marijuana does not effect serotonin systems. It does have an effect on norepenephrine, and to a greater degree dopamine. Marijuana should not cause long term brain damage and decrease in memory. Since THC is fat soluble, the THC will "stick" to your neurons for a long period of time, but once the THC is totally eliminated from the body, you will find that your concentration has gone up. Marijuana induces temporary ADD but this is NOT permanent. If you really have trouble concentrating, it could very much be because of depression, which marijuana can exacerbate. Best of luck to you.

And what makes you so qualified to make a definitive statement are you a doctor or brain neurologist, second is Dopamine changed in the brain permanently???? cause I am on Effexor which changes Noephephrine but not Dopamine> Hi this is mike.
