My meth addicted husband

Posted by Mijafelix on July 12, 2005, at 12:29:38

I have a meth addicted husband, we ahve been married for 6 years and he has been using on and off for 10 years, until just recently, the last 1.5year he has been hiding his addiction from me and basically his entire family. It is ruining our marriage and family, we have 2 kids. He says he wants help, but won't call any of the numbers i give him to get help. I love and want to support him through this hard time but am at my witts end. I can't take it anymore, he is so needy, mean, direspectful and rude that i want to leave him but i know he will make my life so miserable, i also don't want to see him end up dead. Anyone have any suggesions? This is only one of my issues, i am obviously co-dependent, or I would already be gone, my mother was killed by a drunk driver 12/10/03 - still dealing with linger depression from that

I realte to how you are feeling as I'm married to a recovering addict. It's a roller coaster ride from hell. You become as sick as the addict. I've been attending a 12 step program for several years. It has helped me a lot to learn how to focus on myself and realize I'm not his policeman. I can't manage him, I can only manage me. It's a hard road. I know if my hubby was still using, I'd be gone without a doubt. It is too hard to live that way. All the choices they make reflect on you and the kids.
I could write a book for you. Let me suggest Alanon. Check it out where you live. Start to go to meetings. They will be a life saver for you.

Leave him. Make him deal with it on his own, don't let him ruin your life as well as his own. Think of your children. Meth addicts very often will seem so sincere about wanting help. However more often then not, the reason they are so eager about it is they have already made plans for their next high. Don't allow yourself to be dupped.
