It's acamprosate calcium, and unlike Antabuse, does not make you puke. It's supposed to reduce stress and agitation assocated with trying to maintain sobriety.
I feel kind of looped right now. I was going to go out for dinner tongiht and now I'm thinking I should stay put. Feel a bit strange. I'd better stay safe. I'm rather impaired.

It's helping me a lot, TC. It's the first time in 30 years, dear god did I really write that?? - that I'm not thinking about where the next drink is coming from. Can you imagine the freedom I feel? I want to run down the street yelling, "the new phone books are here!!" (sorry, had a Steve Martin moment there).
This medication is a godsend for me. It gives me time to learn some real skills on how to deal with life and crises in healthy ways instead of worrying about that stupid wagon and my next trip off of it.
Long term with this med, who knows? But today is much brighter. Clear Skies, as they say.
You can call me anything you like, sweetie.

I love Steve Martin!!! I have an 8 x 10 in my living room of a young Steve in a white suit and hat, with a cigarette in his mouth. My nephew tells everyone he's my boyfriend and I love him.
About the Campral, is there any side effects? I've always had an addictive personality, but lately alcohol has been becoming a real problem. I used to binge drink when out with friends, now I do it at home alone. I'm having trouble going even one night without getting sloshed. I actually found myself contemplating a drink first thing in the morning last week. That kind of freaked me out. But if I had pot, I wouldn't have thought twice about doing a little 'wake and bake'.
My Grandmother passed away a few months ago, and I know that has alot to do with it. You may remember I was her caregiver for 7 years, and then let my Mom take over about a year ago. We were very close, and I can't seem to let myself 'really' think about it.
I need to start seeing my T again, but I owe her money for a few appointments from when I got fired last year. I thought all but the last one would be covered, but you know how insurance can be. I haven't talked to her about it, although I know I should.
Oh well, time for a refill.

I used to drink corona with lime nightly. Then when my thyroid went and i went into the hospital for the first time for severe anxiety my pdoc put me on chloral hydrate. I had to stop drinking as this is a Mickey Finn. And now I'm afraid to drink it's been over 8years. Fondly, Phillipa
