Depressed for days after drinking

Posted by avery on September 6, 2005, at 14:14:01

Anyone else feel depressed for several days even after moderate/social drinking? Or is this in my head? I understand that alcohol is a depressant and that people sometimes get depressed while drinking and even the next day...but today is the 5th day and I feel so depressed and awful. I can't find anything online to explain it...anyone with the same experience or similar?

Yes, I'd experience 3 to 5 days of increased depression after an evening of moderate drinking. I guess that's why they put the warnings on the prescription labels???
I thought it was guilt at first but I do believe it's a biological reaction.

I some times get depressed when I don't have a drink. Maybe that is the problem?

I hear you, Sebastian. The only time I feel good is when I've had a few. Though, after several months alcohol free I have started to drink socially and notice a definite decline in my mood in the days after...thought maybe it was my imagination. Thanks to both of you for responding.

Same thing happened to me except it wasn't alcohol. My DOC was hydrocodone and I suffered terrible increase of depression for several days after using it.
