Elisabeth Wertzel Ritalin Cocaine

Posted by Paulbwell on January 8, 2006, at 21:05:15

Some of you may be familar with Elisabeth Wertzel and her books 'Prozac Nation' and 'Bitch' but she became addicted to snorting crushed Ritalin, interwoven with Cocaine, and found them very similar in effect. 'The sugar in my days'.she wrote.

I wonder how many folks out there are replacing their Coke or Meth habits with Ritalin, Dexedrine Adderall?

Cheers

I think it is certainly very common under certain circumstances.

When ritalin is easier to obtain then it is probably substituded quite readily.

Rats don't really care which one they get :)

Yeah, I think this is a common dilemma that clinicians try to unravel. Are these folks treating a real mental disorder or are they a clever substance abuser?

Yes, but usually when they are implanted with an IV, which as anyone stupid enought to IV Ritalin will tell you, it's effects are indistinguishable from Cocaine Hcl.

Snorting Methylphenidate (I'm told is like dirty Coke)so not REALLY Comparable.

My daughter convinced her doctors that she needed ritalin for ADD.... she wanted to use is as an appetite suppressant, and as we later learned from her journal after her suicide, she was snorting it. I have heard that the effect is not dissimilar to cocaine.. Some say even better. It is called Kiddie Cocaine..
Many prescribing physicians don't even know that this is a use for ritalin. Doctors seem to just prescribe without real consideration of potential consequences. it is just so easy to do.. ............... a long sad story.. the ritalin was probably the major contributor to my daughter's death in terms of the overall effect on her life. We didn't know or realize what was happening.

I'm sorry for your loss.

Perhaps the Tom Cruise story will alight Some Docs to the abuse potential of Ritalin when it is used abusuably.

I have taken Methylphenidate for some time, and have recently taken some days off it, frankly i was higher off it than on, thou it was used in an attempt to calm and focus my mind on the present activities i was doing.

It is rapid acting and that makes it exciting to abusers.

Cheers
