I wonder why there is not a device available that keeps your ritalin or adderall inside that dispenses it at timeed intervils throughtout the day and wont let you get anymore to keep you from taking more than you need and starting to updoses leading to addiction??

ryan2828, that's a novel idea. I'm sure they've thought of that...Maybe there isn't such a device b/c it could backfire and not dispense at all. Plus, people would find a way to get to the drug. If you could design such a device, how would you do it to overcome these flaws? Hmm...If a dispenser like that were available to pharmacies, doctors might prescribe stimulants to people who they wouldn't ordinarily prescribe it to.

run with that idea... maybe you could design one and patent it.
Try inquiring about whether anyone already has a patent on the idea. If not, you could make a lot of money!

Ritalin Patches are being approved for use in the US.

They probably think that people would break inside of the dispenser.

Hey, has anyone caught wind of what New River Pharmaceuticals is doing? Here is a statement they issued: "Utilizing our proprietary Carrierwave™ technology, we are currently developing versions of amphetamines and opioids that are designed to provide overdose protection, abuse resistance and less potential for addiction while providing efficacy comparable to the active pharmaceutical ingredients on which they are based. We believe some of our drugs may prove highly resistant to overdose. We believe that we are the first company attempting to address the potential overdose risk associated with currently-marketed amphetamines and opioids."
On their website,
http://www.nrpharma.com/research/index.htm
they go on to say:
"We refer to our Carrierwave™ compounds as Conditionally Bioreversible Derivatives (CBDs). We create a new molecule—a derivative—made of the active pharmaceutical ingredient of a drug such as an amphetamine or opioid, covalently attached to an adjuvant. We design the new molecules to be pharmacologically inactive and only activated ("bioreversed") when taken as directed."
I wonder if this will help or hinder treatment?
We'll see if the final product is FDA-approved.
This is the end of the thread.
