A parting of ways

Posted by curtm on September 3, 2006, at 8:05:35

We are moving in a couple months I hope, so we rented a storage unit. I put some stuff from the garage and the house in it so we could put some stuff from the house into the garage for a rummage sale.

Well one of the things I put into storage was my small dorm size beer fridg. It was a sad parting. I caressed it's soft enamel finish, sadly hugged it goodbye and closed the door to the unit and locked it. It must dark and lonely in there. I occasionally visit when I haul another load of stuff over and reassure it that we will someday be together once again.

((((((((beer fridg))))))))

Such a sad parting. It's nice that you visit it sometimes.

My husband still has his college dorm beer fridge, and we used it as an end table (God, I'm so embarrassed to admit that!) for years. A quite handy end table. I forget exactly why, but we recently retired it to the basement. I'm not even sure where it is down there, so I don't visit it.

I tend to think those units are indestructible. This one is about 20 years old and was still going strong before its retirement.

((((curt))))

Good luck on the garage sale.

My college beer fridge is still at college. I found it on the sidewalk, cleaned it up, used it for a year, and then left it, better than when I found it, I believe.

My roommate here in grad school brought home a beer fridge one time. Who knows how long it's been alive? I'm guessing at least 10 years. It's ugly, but it works great. We keep it in our living room. Sometimes its just too far to go to the kitchen for a beer.

On top is my tea assortment, an electric kettle, my vitamins, and my psychomeds. handy to keep these near the water. keep reading, as this post gets better and better.

Here are the contents as of this moment:

1 britta filter pitcher. ice cold water

1 baggie of baking soda. I'd take a pic, but this could be triggering. It's for the smell of a forgotten taco a few months back

1 can diet sunkis orange. been there for at least a month. the other 11 cans were gone in a week. guess i overdosed, huh?

1 can of tamarind paste. I don't even rememeber why this is here.

Fridge came in really handy when the big fridge broke this spring on a Friday evening. Maybe that's how the tamarind paste got there. WTF am I going to do with TWO bottles of tamarind paste (32 oz?). I don't even know what to do with a spoonful. Maybe a sour soup, or a tangy beverage, or a Halloween special effect.

That's all. I hope you didn't keep reading just because I said it gets better and better. I lied.

Keep in touch while you are going through the move.
