As a teenager I started smoking pot to be with friends. After the accident I smoked all the time for a few months. then I quit. for the next year I quit everything, went to school got good grades(honer roll). but I was getting depressed about the accident, talking on the phone to my mom. then I went back to visit with parents and old freinds, and smoked pot again. The next day I was holucinating, thinking that the TV was talking to me. Then I went back to school. I first I got depressed about being 3 days late for school. Then I started getting delusional and psychotic. IE...I was standing in front of school afraid to go in, drinking beer in the parking lot, sleeping in before school, probably using drugs as I have been informed later on. Withing 2 months of having massive parinoia, and an unwillingnes to talk to teachers and tutors as I was falling behind. the school wrote a letter to my parents. Dad picked me up took me to a doctor who said I had racing thoughts and prescribed zyprexa. But I couldn't take it because I was going back to Canada, where it was not aproved yet. Spent the best part of the next year in mental hospitals and hiding in my room afraid to go out or take prescriptions, as I thought they were just anouther mind altering drug. Eventualy I went back to the states and got a job to pay off my car. No meds and I got back into pot. then a 3 day crack binge. that was that, and I moved again. They tried risperdal on me and all my simptoms got worse, they took me off it till I went back to the doctor and got zyprexa. Well all my simptoms went away. got a job and started smoking pot hevaly. A year later I decided I was well and quit pot and zyprexa. The next 4 months were crazy, pure psychosis, in my room, not eating for days or drinking even water. So I decided I needed to go back on zyprexa and pot. I was fine untill the next year when I went off it agian. Same thing. Went back on it. This time I took it religiously for the next few years, no problems. then my doctor wanted me off the zyprexa, so I tried new AP's which did nothing for the symptoms. the second to last trial was geodon. I was to go off the zyprexa and on to geodon very quikly. whith in a month I felt very bad and decided I needed pot to feel better. It sort of worked, but after a while of very high doses of geodon and increasingly blury vision, I knew I needed zyprexa, all better. Now I'm giving Abilify a thired try. went off zyprexa again and guess what my mind was going nuts. And I started smoking pot again, once agian it helped for a little while, but here I am once again on the 10mg zyprexa dose and feeling better agian. Less desire to drink and I quit pot.
So there it is what does it all mean?
Your freind

It's funny, I think that pot made me psychotic in the beginning. Then they said that I have drug induced psychosis. Zyprexa cured it. But I still smoked at the same time and was not psychotic, I worked hard. When I went off the meds and the pot at the same time, I went psychotic again.

So you don't know if it was going off meds or going off pot or BOTH??? too bad.My son has drug-induced psychosis right now. From cocaine & crystal meth....I think the doctors say it's from too many stimulants.
Earlier in the week the pdoc with Can. Mental Health Association with the Helping Overcome Psychosis Early (HOPE) program that he's in - anyway that pdoc said that sometimes the drugs create the psychosis or sometimes the person was going to get schizophrenia anyway & the drugs trigger it.
How are you doing now?
hugs, Kath

Pot is not an anti-psychotic. So I quit.
