First time on board, please read

Hi,
I've had this argument a million times so I'd really rather not fight it rather than take some good healthy advice unless you disagree with me, but first off I'm not an alcoholic, and no, I'm not in denial. When I drink/drank it was about once a week, but I would get my money's worth if you want to put it that way. I've been trying to stop drinking for a few reasons, mainly hangovers, calories, and saving money.
I actually attended many AA meetings and finally decided it wasn't me. However I'm at a tough spot in my life and I know I wouldn't be drinking at all practically if I wasn't in this situation. I just moved back from living in Europe for 10 years, I don't know a soul here aside from a couple AQUAINTENCES at work, no real friends. I am still finishing college at age 26, and I commute, living with parents. Needless to say it is nearly impossible to get a date, let alone have a relationship last. Same goes for friends. I've basically been through social withdrawal, another reason I go to the bars on weekends, because I am a guy that needs to be around close friends all the time, and since I moved back from Europe, I have completely lost all that. I live alone with parents, and brother and sister are away at college. I've been searching high and low for other activities, mindsets, you name it to get me through the weekends.
During the week isn't a problem as I just go to work, come home, sleep, go to work, etc. However come Saturday I start hearing all the people at work talking about socializing, going to shows, parties, etc, (people I don't care for, but are having fun nonetheless), and I get ancy, to at least be social, around people my age, to feel normal. So that's when I would go to the bar. I never even get that excited about it, I'm just more "content" for a better word, to be out, around people my age, pretending my life is normal.

I've looked for churches with youth groups to no avail, health clubs are too expensive, (saving money), I don't know where else to look. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Hi Becks,

If you can make it through the week without drinking at all, why do you feel the need to drink excessively on the weekend? What would happen if you just had 2 or three drinks in a weekend evening? Do you need the alcohol to socialize? Is it possible that you have a social anxiety disorder? If so, there are much better treatments than alcohol. Klonopin and Nardil seem to be some of the better agents for social anxiety. Anyways, just trying to help. What do you think?
