I have never written on this board before. I never felt the need to. Hope this is appropriate for it.
I have been on Oxycontin since 2003 for pain. I never wanted to stay on it and took a lot of supplements, changed eating habits and saw two naturopaths. I was able to go off of it twice for several weeks. In February I got an infection which caused a great increase in pain. I had to increase my Oxycontin from 40mg a day to 60mg. Not every day. I took a supplement that bothered my bladder (source of pain) for a few days and stopped. Now I find that I need at least 30mg bid and usually more. Is my tolerance increased for good do you think? I am trying to change to Suboxone or Subutex but just found a doctor I thin will write it for me. Have not spoken to him yet.
Very unhappy. Never thought I would have to stay on pain meds. My urologist keeps telling me it will be for ever and I need to accept it.

Yes, of course. You will be able to reduce your tolerance but your body will remember the exposure.
I'd try to stay within a band.
I'd have a maximunm doseage and a minimum one.
Perhaps you will be able to reduce your dose over time?
It may be that your mental state will improve when you take less, at least once you get used to it, but maybe not. There's always the memantine opiate tolerance thing, and it is *supposed* to help with withdrawal, no idea how.

Quite right.
That light at the end of the tunnel might well be a train.

Nine times out of ten it is. Sometimes I wish I would just stay on the Dam*** track and not jump off at the last minute! When is enough enough? I can find n good reason for the suffering. See no Light at the end of the tunnel. Only momentarily and always let down.
My understanding of Subutex is there is less possibility of building up tolerance or more tolerance?
Whats up with you lately?oky
p.s. By the way my new friend that was going to provide the name of a doctor to prescribe the Subutex I found out was in the hospital for several days Should get the name later today so I will call and make an appointment on Monday.

60mg oxycodone, hey?
I imagine that to be *very* roughly equivalent to around 20mg/d methadone, and people can switch to bupe from methadone at that level, though not neccessarily easily.
People who do switch have a period of adjustment because bupe is a mixed agonist/antagonist (I think?). A commonly reported problem is asthma-like symptoms. When finally adjusted to, people report that bupe is easier to get off (methadone is terrible to get off) and they feel less depressed. I'm not sure how applicable this is to oxycodone.
I've been industrious this morning and have been settling accounts (chainsaw and poison) with a coral tree complex which has been invading a native forest.

don't you worry about driving on it? Isn't it illegal to drive on it?
This is the end of the thread.
