Working!

Posted by stargazer2 on March 2, 2008, at 18:28:02

After about a year and a half of depression and trying med after med (currently on Nardil), I have found a job and started a week ago.

I had a few bumps along the way. Uncertainty about references, background check and drug tests and also about being unemployed for as long as I have. That was a first for me although I have taken other short term and medical leaves in the past but usually was able to find something within a few months or so.

This time, I am older, insurance is critical and this may be my last real job but nevertheless, I found something that seems as though it will work out for me very nicely.

The people who interviewed me were real, no intimidation tactics and now that I've started here, it seems like everyone is genuinely happy to be working here. The other day a woman who I am now working with told me about her job at another company, where I also just interviewed. I guess they made her life a living hell,so much so she became anxious and started having panic attacks. Luckily she was hired here and is so much happier.

It's just not you sometimes, it can be the work environment or the people you work with who try to make your life a living hell. Unfortunately that is a fact of life today. Those situations can make you sick and I'm happy to find a place like this that just feels right.

It may not be a perfect job since all jobs are filled with stress and negative stuff, but it feels good to know there are places to work that are alot better than others and I think I have finally found one where my stress will not be so overwhelming as to jeopardize my depression coming back as a direct result of a highly toxic work environment, where I have spend a few years and saw my depression come back as a result.

Hi Stargazer,

Congratulations.

You are absolutely right that "it's just not you sometimes, it can be the work environment or the people you work with who try to make your life a living hell."

I hope your new job stays stress free.
