pm lifting depression

I know I read somewhere about depression that lifts by evening. Is there a particular drug that helps this type of depression?

Geez Molly, this is my depression exactly...plus some other things.

Have you tried light therapy in the mornings? and good sleep hygiene, which is, as I understand it, means going to bed at the same time (before midnight) and getting up at the same time.

Which is, of course, the hardest thing for people like us to do. Janice.

do you go manic at night time?
does you have Seasonal affective disorder?
have you ever looked into ADHD (because often this is the way ADHD people's circadian rhythm is)

The above are some factors I believe my 24 hour rhythm is related to for me.

I don't know if I am depressed or not. This is complicated because of possible connective tissue disease (lupus)So I don't know what symptoms are due to what. I am just thinking at this point. I have been noticing that I feel better at night, but not always. This is when I have felt "off" and foggy all day. Like I'm not all here. But this has never seemed related to loss of self-esteem or sadness. But, believe me, I have wondered if it could be related to a mood disorder and not lupus. I remembered reading somewhere about a type of depression that lifted by evening, but cannot remember what about it!

I go to bed around the same time every night and get up at the same time every am. I have not tried light therapy. Don't have time in my schedule for it anyway.

Some evenings I am likely hypomanic. I am, at what I consider my normal, hyperthymic. I don't think I have SAD. I am not ADHD. My energy is very focused and organized.

Thanks for the ideas.

James here....

Light therapy is done at home. You can set it up by the bed or couch and do it while you are relaxing. It takes a few mins. It's a good idea to try it first b4 you buy SAD lamps. Do do your research as with wrong kind(s) of light you will
increase risk of skin cancer.

As you get depressed at nite (less sunlight) this seems a no brainer and at the very least ez to prove or disprove. If you live in a big city there are places to go for light treatment. You
might try one for a week; from what I have read if it is going to work it happens fast. A tanning booth is a last resort; only use short term. A week or so in a tanning booth will not cost much.

If it works...no pills to buy, just bulbs ! Good safe light sources are not cheap, but if you factor the cost over a lifetime it is very cheap.
