i was put on effexor XR on monday, which turned me into a zombie. We're stopping the effexor EX today, Friday, and I'm being put on Prozac tomorrow. any thoughts or comments on this?

Sounds good to me. Go for it. I've tried them all, and my personal favorite is good ole tried and true Prozac.

Make sure and get the real authentic Prozac, not the generic fluoxetine. They are supposedly the same, but I swear they aren't. I think it makes sense to do the initial trial on authentic Prozac, and then later if it turns out good then you could try substituting the generic version to see if there is any difference. But for the trial, use the real stuff. No generics. Just my opinion.

Good news.... effexor is BAD news for some... if you felt like that to start, you probably would have been one of them. Good luck on the prozac.

Prozac worked well for me except the anorexia side effect. I still battle that sometimes. Am on the tiny dose of effexor now and was ok after the second week. Maybe your dose was too large?

With good reason. Why did your doctor prescribe you effexor????? There are so many other "milder" ones out there... or have you tried many? I definately, and I think a lot of people would agree with me... this shouldn't be a first time AD.

heres my little history.....my first bout of depression was when i was 10, but i didnt tell anyone. four years later everything got so bad that even my parents noticed. went to the doctor, told me to take zoloft 50mg. which i did for about three months and i quit. i went back that fall to try again because we thought it was seasonal...this time zoloft didnt work until we kicked it up to 100mg. i went off it the following spring. that was two years ago. i took myself to the doc a week ago and said no more zoloft so he gave me effexor....which turned me into a zombie. friday, my mother called and conferenced and they switched me to prozac. what a life.
