Serzone feel like tweaking? Anyone else?

Posted by Carlos C on April 7, 2003, at 3:32:44

This is my first day on Serzone (150x2) It feels like I'm on crystal meth. Anyone else get this feeling? It feels like my skin is crawling, my palms are sweaty, and I feel like cleaning the house.

That is way too high for your first dose! It took me nearly two weeks to get to 300.

I have been on Serzone for four years and have no side effects (except for really excellent orgasms). I only take between 200 and 300 mg. But I started with 50 or 75 the first day. I was very groggy and began taking it at bedtime, since my problem was insomnia with anxiety about insomnia.

Ask your doctor if you shouldn't start more slowly.

There are people that exceed 600mg daily w/o adverse affects (yet, anyways). I'm very tolerant of many drugs. SSRI's won't touch me. All they did was make me gain weight. I just hope I don't grow tolerant to this dosage and have to be bumped up. This med has not made me tired, it has activating effects on me. Weird, many people report fatigue. But having my anxiety lessened always helps my mood and of course is less stress, probably equaling less over-all fatigue I normally run into.

I thought you said your very first dose made you feel that way. I understand that people exceed 600 mg., but they don't take 600 mg. the first day they start the medication, right?

I was merely pointing out that starting a med like Serzone at the therapeutic dose, rather than increasing it gradually, can cause any number of side effects--and could make you sick.

Occasionally, I have breakthrough anxiety, but it is once or twice a year. Serzone has worked at a lower-than-therapeutic dose for me for four years.

IMHO, Serzone is a med that warrants slow start and titration. I take 500 mg/day, but started very slow.

Also, I found that the first few weeks of Serzone were difficult, with a lot of grogginess, some balance problems, and emotionality. But that passed. I still do get the grogginess in the few hours after I dose, but that is good because I want it to help counteract the sleep problems I get from Effexor. But beyond those first few weeks, the 24 hour fogginess went away.

Make sure to get your liver enzymes checked.

Good luck.

Thanks for your replies. I'll speak to my doctor about my dosage. What do you mean by breakthrough anxiety?
